About Time

  • Prep Time: 10 minutes
  • Cook Time: 10–12 minutes
  • Total Time: ~25 minutes
  • Servings: 8–10 scones

Ingredients

  • 85g diced butter
  • 350g self-raising flour
  • ¼ tsp salt
  • 1½ tsp bicarbonate of soda
  • 4 tbsp caster sugar
  • 200ml milk (room temperature) + extra for brushing
  • Crushed sugar cubes, for topping

Instructions

Step 1: Prepare the Dough

In a food processor, pulse the butter and flour until the mixture resembles fine breadcrumbs.
Transfer to a bowl and stir in the salt, bicarbonate of soda, and caster sugar.

Using a knife, stir in the milk until just combined—avoid over-mixing to keep the scones light.

Step 2: Shape the Scones

Lightly flour a work surface and gently knead the dough a couple of times.
Pat it out to about 1 inch thick.
Use a floured cutter to stamp out rounds. Gather and reshape any scraps to make more scones.

Step 3: Air Fry the Scones

Preheat the air fryer to 350°F (180°C) for 3–5 minutes.
Brush the tops of the scones with a little milk and sprinkle with crushed sugar cubes.
Place the scones in the air fryer basket, leaving space between them.
Air fry at 350°F (180°C) for 10–12 minutes, until risen and golden brown.

Step 4: Cool & Serve

Transfer the scones to a wire rack and let them cool for a few minutes.
Serve warm with butter, jam, or clotted cream.
