Ingredients
For the Cake
- 1½ cups (190g) all-purpose flour
- 1 cup (200g) granulated sugar
- ¼ cup (25g) unsweetened cocoa powder
- 1 teaspoon baking powder
- ½ teaspoon baking soda
- ¼ teaspoon salt
- 2 large eggs
- ½ cup (120ml) milk
- ¼ cup (60ml) vegetable oil
- 1 teaspoon vanilla extract
- ½ cup (120ml) hot coffee or hot water
Optional Chocolate Frosting
- ½ cup (115g) softened butter
- 1¾ cups (210g) powdered sugar
- ¼ cup (25g) cocoa powder
- 2 tablespoons milk
- 1 teaspoon vanilla extract
Instructions
- Grease and line a 7-inch (18cm) round cake pan that fits your air fryer basket.
- In a large bowl, whisk together the flour, sugar, cocoa powder, baking powder, baking soda, and salt.
- Add the eggs, milk, oil, and vanilla. Mix until smooth.
- Slowly stir in the hot coffee (or hot water). The batter will be thin.
- Pour the batter into the prepared cake pan.
- Preheat the air fryer to 320°F (160°C).
- Air fry for 28–35 minutes, or until a toothpick inserted in the center comes out clean.
- If the top starts browning too quickly, loosely cover the pan with foil for the last 10–15 minutes.
- Let the cake cool in the pan for 10 minutes before transferring it to a wire rack to cool completely.
Make the Frosting
- Beat the softened butter until creamy.
- Add the powdered sugar and cocoa powder.
- Mix in the milk and vanilla until smooth and fluffy.
- Spread over the cooled cake.
Optional Toppings
- 🍓 Fresh strawberries or raspberries
- 🍫 Chocolate shavings
- 🍦 Vanilla ice cream
- 🍬 Chocolate chips
- 🍓 Powdered sugar and fresh berries
Tips
- Don’t overfill the cake pan; leave about 1 inch (2.5cm) of space for the cake to rise.
- Every air fryer cooks a little differently, so begin checking for doneness at the 28-minute mark.
- Store the cake in an airtight container at room temperature for up to 3 days, or refrigerate for up to 5 days.
