Ingredients
- 4 slices of bread (white, sourdough, or whole wheat)
- 4 slices deli ham
- 4 slices cheddar, Swiss, provolone, or American cheese
- 2 tablespoons softened butter (or mayonnaise for an extra crispy crust)
- 1 teaspoon Dijon mustard (optional)
Instructions
- Preheat the air fryer to 370°F (190°C) for 3 minutes.
- Spread butter (or mayonnaise) on one side of each slice of bread.
- Place two slices of bread butter-side down.
- Add one slice of cheese, two slices of ham, then another slice of cheese.
- Top with the remaining bread slices butter-side up.
- Place the sandwiches in the air fryer basket in a single layer. If needed, secure each sandwich with a toothpick to prevent the top slice from lifting.
- Air fry at 370°F (190°C) for 4–5 minutes.
- Carefully flip the sandwiches and cook for another 3–4 minutes, until both sides are golden brown and the cheese is fully melted.
- Let the sandwiches rest for 1–2 minutes before slicing and serving.
Optional Add-Ins
- 🥓 Crispy bacon
- 🍅 Tomato slices
- 🧅 Thinly sliced onion
- 🌶️ Jalapeño slices
- 🥬 Baby spinach
- 🥒 Dill pickle slices (served on the side)
Tips
- Thick-cut bread may need an extra 1–2 minutes of cooking.
- Avoid overfilling the sandwich so the cheese melts evenly.
- If cooking multiple sandwiches, leave space between them for proper air circulation.
- Cooking times may vary slightly depending on your air fryer model.
