Ingredients
- 4 slices bread
- 4 slices deli ham
- 4 slices cheddar, Swiss, or American cheese
- 2 tablespoons softened butter
- 1 teaspoon Dijon mustard, optional
- Black pepper, to taste
Instructions
- Preheat your air fryer to 375°F (190°C) for 3 minutes.
- Butter one side of each slice of bread.
- Place two slices of bread butter-side down.
- Spread with Dijon mustard, if using.
- Add a slice of cheese, 2 slices of ham, and another slice of cheese.
- Top with the remaining bread, butter-side up.
- Place the sandwiches in the air fryer basket in a single layer. Secure the top bread with a toothpick if necessary.
- Air fry for 4–5 minutes.
- Carefully flip the sandwiches and cook for another 3–4 minutes, until golden brown and the cheese is melted.
- Let them rest for 1–2 minutes, then slice and serve.
🧀 Tips for the Best Sandwich
- Use room-temperature butter so it spreads easily.
- Don’t overload the sandwich—the cheese needs room to melt.
- For extra-crispy bread, lightly brush the outside with mayonnaise instead of butter.
- Cooking times can vary slightly between air fryer models.
